How To Be A Great Singer – Extend Your Vocal Range

January 17th, 2010 by admin

One way to be a great singer is to learn how to use the whole range of your voice so that it sounds completely smooth from the lower notes all the way to the top notes. When you sing, the sound should blend completely so that you do not sound like two different people with one voice being loud and heavy with your higher range sounding thin and weak.

Sing With A Full Powerful Voice

There are only a few people who can get away with distinctly different sounds in the vocals. Mariah Carey is an example. We know that she likes to sing songs in her upper register which is light and airy. However when she first started in the business all her songs were full voiced and powerful. This is the sound that I prefer and this is the sound that most people will expect to hear when you sing.

Practice Your Scales Everyday

To get a powerful singing voice you need to do daily singing exercises which will strengthen your vocal cords so that they are used to singing from low to high. Do not just concentrate on the notes of your favourite songs otherwise you will lose the use of the rest of your range and this will mean that your song choices will be very limited.

Work To Extend Your Vocal Range

To have a realistic chance of making it as a great singer like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce or even the recent American Idol winner Jordan Sparks, you need to work hard to extend your range to cover at least 2 to 3 octaves. You will then be able to sing almost any song without difficulty.
